AN estimated 170,000 meals will be served to athletes, officials and volunteers during the 2015 Pacific Games.
Eurest PNG Catering Services Limited, the caterer for the Games revealed it would have a staff of 800 for the Games from July 4-18, and the company was excited to be chosen as the caterer for Games. The company said the nourishment and health of athletes and team officials was a priority. This will see the company handle large volumes of food, including 9000 kilogrammes of potatoes, 60,000 eggs and 20,000kg of fresh fruit. Menus for the Pacific Games are being created in line with Eurest’s existing health and wellness programme, Tastelife, which was developed by exercise physiologists and sports dieticians. The menus for the Games will cater for the whole spectrum of participants, from high performance athletes to volunteers, and focus on nutritious options without compromising on choice. Examples of menus Eurest gave include breakfast – eggs cooked to order, seasonal fruit and porridge; lunch – chicken and sweet corn soup, fresh sandwiches, grilled fish, spinach and pumpkin flan; dinner – Laksa soup, Thai lamb salad and braised peppered lean beef.
