1. POOL MEDALS - Papua New Guinea picked up five more medals in the pool tonight. Swimming sensation Ryan Pini swam for Gold in the Men's 100 meter Butterfly. He clocked a time of 53.4-2 seconds, while Sam Seghers won Silver in a time of 55.4-9. Tahiti got Bronze. In the women's 200 meter Breaststroke, PNG's Tegan McCarthy got Silver, while Savannah Tkatchenko the Bronze. New Caledonia's Lara Grangeon smashed the Games record by three seconds for the Gold medal. PNG also just won Bronze in the men's 4 by 200 meter Freestyle Relay. .................................................................................................................. 2. GOLDEN PERFORMANCES - In other gold medal performances today; Guba Hale Mea lifted a total 188kg to defend her Pacific title in the 69kg women's division at the PNG Power Dome. In Va'a, the P-N-G Women's Team beat world champions Tahiti to get Gold in the 500m race at the Fairfax Habor. In Touch Football, the P-N-G men and women teams bagged gold, after defeating the Samoan men and women teams. In Shooting, P-N-G's Tanya Mairi won Gold in the women's 25 meter pistol event at the June Valley Shooting Range. .............................................................................................................. 3. LEWA THRASH FIJI- The P-N-G women's cricket team continued its winning streak today, defeating Fiji by 81 runs, at the Bisini Sports Ground. The Lewas won the toss, and elected to bat. Openers Norma Ovasuru and Varoi Morea wasted no time getting PNG off to a good start. The pair put on a 135 run partnership in 17 overs before Ovasuru was trapped leg before wicket by Fiji's leading bowler Rudi Muriyalo for 68. Captain Pauke siake did not last long bowled by Jimaima Bulatalei for a duck. Tanya Ruma smashed four boundaries before the PNG innings wound up at two for 167 after 20 overs. Fiji in reply started off badly when opener Luisa Tawatatau was run out and Sem Lomani was bowled by ravini oa in the first two overs. When captain Alicia Zureen was dismissed for 16 in the 12th over, PNG bundled out the Fijians for 86 runs and win by 81 runs. In the other games, Samoa beat Cook Islands by eight wickets, after the Cooks were bowled out for 84. PNG MEN WINS SI IN SOCCER- The Papua New Guinea men's soccer team has qualified for the semi finals of the Pacific Games as well as the OFC Olympic Qualifier PNG advanced after defeating the Solomon Islands 2-1 at the Bisini Sports Ground today. It was a must-win game for both sides, after two losses each in their earlier encounters. Strikers Tommy Semmy and Jacob Sabua scored a goal each, while Davidson Tome scored the Solomon Islands only goal. PNG will meet Fiji in the Olympic Qualifying semi final on Friday, while New Zealand will play Vanuatu. The boys will play Tahiti in the Pacific Games semi's next Wednesday, with the other semi final game between New Caledonia and Fiji. ...................................................................................................... 5. MEDAL TALLY DAY FIVE - Papua New Guinea is on top of the Pacific Games medal tally, on day five of competition. On the Games official medal standing, PNG has 13 Gold, 4 Silver and 4 Bronze. Australia has 6 Gold, 13 Silver and 5 Bronze at second place. New Caledonia has 5 Gold, 3 Silver and 5 Bronze. Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti have 4 Gold medals each, Solomon Islands 3 Gold, Federated States of Micronesia 2 Gold, and Tonga 1. Several medals were picked up today, which will be added onto the medal tally.
