1. MORE GOLD FROM THE POOL - Papua New Guinea collected three medals in swimming at the B-S-P Arena this afternoon.
Ryan Pini took out gold in the men's 50 meter butterfly, setting a new games record of 23 point 9- 3 seconds. Ryan Maskyln took silver in the mens 200 meter breast stroke, finishing behind Tonga's Amini Fonua and a New Caledonian coming third. Young Savannah Tkatchenko took out bronze in the women's 100 m breast stroke. For Pini, this is the fourth gold medal in the games, and 3rd bronze medal for Tkatchenko. ...................................................................................................... 2. PNG THRASH TAHITI- The Papua New Guinea women thrashed Tahiti 48 nil in Rugby Seven's at the B-S-P Stadium. Lynette Kwarula scored the first try, and Freda Waugla the second. Menda Ipat scored the third try, with P-N-G leading 27 nil at half time. P-N-G scored more tries in the second half, with Dulcie Bomai getting her second by full time. The women will play Australia later this hour. In the men's, P-N-G defeated Solomon Islands 22 to 7. 3.................................................................................................. 4. LEWAS TOO GOOD- PNG Lewa's Konia Oala scored the first century at the womens cricket competition against New Caledonia at the bisini sport Grounds this afternoon. Opening the PNG innings, Oala's 108 runs not out included thirteen 4s and four 6s in PNG's total of three down for 194 after 20 overs. The Lewas bundled out New Caledonia for 62 runs to win by 132 runs. In the other game, Cook Islands run chase of 104 set by Vanuatu fell short by 30 runs after their 20 overs was up. In tomorrow mornings games, the PNG Lewas take on the other undefeated team in Samoa and Cook Islands face New Caledonia. In the afternoon, Fiji play Vanuatu to end the women's cricket round robin matches. ........................................................................................................ 5. PNG DOMINATES PAWA LIFTING- Papua New Guinea today dominated power lifting at the 15th Pacific Games. The medals piled up yet again later tonight. Power lifting sensation Linda Palsan will compete in her first event, the women's 72 kilogram division tonight. ................................................................................................... 6. TOUCH COMPETITION- Samoa is proving to be the strong contender for gold, after their draw against P-N-G in the Mix Touch Football this afternoon. Samoa showed their hunger for gold, when they forced a 7 all draw at full time, in the second day of round robin matches at the Bisini Sports Grounds. The final round robin games is expected to end in the morning, followed by the semi finals. The medal play-offs are scheduled to be held later in the day. ............................................................................................ 7. PNG STILL LEADS MEDAL TALLY- Papua New Guinea is still on top of the Pacific Games medal tally, on day seven of competition today.( Thursday 9th July) According to the Games official website, P-N-G has 18 Gold, 10 Silver and 8 Bronze. Tahiti has moved up second with 15 Gold, 8 Silver and 4 Bronze. On third is New Caledonia with 12 Gold, 10 Silver and 11 Bronze. Samoa is fourth with 11 Gold, and 15 Silver.
