ATHLETICS Papua New Guinea (APNG) will finally have an office administration in place courtesy of a K200,000 support grant from the National Government’s Sports Enhancement Programme.
And again it is a milestone achieved thanks to the Minister for Sports Justin Tkatchenko for recognizing the importance athletics will play in raking in the gold medals in the 2015 Pacific Games. This was sounded out by APNG president Tony Green who in his 20 year involvement in the sport has never witnessed a Government Minister facilitate direct financial assistance to the sport. An elated APNG president Tony Green this week thanked the Minister for Sports Justin Tkatchenko for recognising the important role that a sound administration plays in supporting athletes and coaches. Green said: “The Government has already made available a significant amount of funding for team preparations for 2015, but it’s a lot of work implementing programmes and we currently lack administrative capacity,” he said. This funding will enable us to set up a proper office and meet ongoing administration costs as well as engage the coaches and administrators that we need to support our athletes,” Green said
