WINNING a gold medal at the Pacific Games in karate will be a bonus, Team New Ireland head coach Bernard Soari says.
Soari said he was thankful to be part of the coaching staff of the national squad, with two of his boys being part of the PNG squad. He was included as an official after taking his province to an impressive medal haul at last year’s PNG Games. “It is a proud moment for me and the province to see Silas Piskaut and Atomu Amani named in the national karate squad for the Pacific Games,” Soari said. He said Piskaut is the current national 55kg champion and Amani was a great prospect in the 74kg division at the Pacific Games. He said the pair had trained hard and were looking forward to giving their best against the countries entering the karate competition at the Games. “Winning a gold medal will be a bonus for our province,” he said.
