PNG's NCD Governor Powes Parkop is worried that PNG is running out of time in making preparations for the 2015 South Pacific Games.
During a speech for the signing of the Trustees for the new Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, Parkop said time was wasted when PNG got the nod to host the South Pacific Games in 2015. “In September 2009 I went for the meeting where we received three votes for Papua New Guinea to host the Pacific Games. And from 2009 till now 2013, I think we have wasted two to three years,” Parkop said. “Frankly things are not ready. I don’t want us to be another ‘banana republic’,” the second-term governor said added. Parkop said that in 2015 PNG would celebrate its 40 years of independence and that was also another reason why the country got the vote to host. He however praised Sir Mick Curtain for his generosity in making the effort to help PNG in such an occasion and said it was asset and legacy PNG would always remember. “We don’t know how you will get your money back but thank you so much.” Comments are closed.
