THE Oceania Hockey Federation was buoyed at the news of Solomon Islands sending a hockey team to the Pacific Games for the first time.
Oceania Hockey Federation Continental development officer Gill Gemming expressed the federation’s gratitude and promised to make a final visit to the team before the Games kick off next month. “Oceania is so excited that the Solomon Islands have a team entered in the Pacific Games,” Gemming said. “I have arranged a goalkeeping set for your goalkeeper for the Games and I will take the kit to Honiara and run some coaching for your team and goalkeeper. “I am keen to meet with Solomon Island Hockey Association executive and the NOCSI, meet with its management for Pacific Games so that I can upskill them on their roles.” Gemming said he would run a workshop on hockey five-a-side rules, including handing out booklets and run coaching sessions. Last week the SIHA received a grant of A$1500 (K3100) from OHF to help with the preparations of the team for the Games. This comes as a boost to their preparations. This will be the first hockey team to represent the country at the Pacific Games.
