PORT MORESBY, July 9 – Kelly Osterbrink, an 18-year old pitcher from American Samoa, is excited to be competing in the Pacific Games for the first time. At just under 100km an hour, Osterbrink (ASA) is her country’s fastest pitcher. Osterbrink, who will be representing American Somoa’s Women’s National Team at Port Moresby 2015, said she can hardly wait for the competition to get started. “I am extremely excited to be here and watch the other teams compete and also to get to meet new people.” said the teenager, who has been going to school and playing softball in Japan. Osterbink said she hopes to make a future out of playing softball for American Samoa. “I started playing softball in elementary school in grade four and worked really hard to get where I am right now. I got into pitching and I am peaking in my sport at my age,” Osterbrink said. “I do plan to play softball all through college and plan on staying on the national team and going to future tournaments.” Meanwhile, Angela Ah-Fook (ASA), who is the youngest player for her team at 17-year-old, said had big shoes to fill. “It takes hard work and a lot of hard practice especially me because my dad is the coach and I have to work harder,” said Ah-Fook, who is a pitcher and a third baseman. “I am really nervous at the moment. I’m looking forward to next week.” Softball will start on Tuesday at Bisini Grounds. GNS at/jc
