With just over seven months to go until the opening of the 2015 Pacific Games, work on the Sir John Guise Stadium is in progress and on schedule.
Its redevelopment will see the existing facilities upgraded to meet International standards. Sir John Guise Stadium will soon become the premier sporting venue in the Pacific. The grand stand will seat a raised capacity of 15,000 spectators and will see new permanent seating placed around the track and rest rooms for spectators. The old synthetic track will be replaced with a new surface and the grass infield will be upgraded to be suitable for international football events. The main grandstand will have the interior refurbished to provide spaces required by athletes and officials as well as VIP and Corporate areas. Both the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, and the Miniser for Sports and Pacific Games, Justin Tkatchenko, in separate interviews have confirmed their satisfaction on the progress of the 2015 Pacific Games preparations.
