PORT MORESBY, July 3 – A flag raising ceremony for the 24 nations taking part in the Port Moresby 2015 Pacific Games took place at the Games Village on Thursday.
Ten representatives from each country marched with their flag from Forum Square at the University of Papua New Guinea to the village where the 24 flags were raised. Ukenio Teurakai (KIR) said he was happy that he was chosen for the ceremony. “It felt nice to be one of the Kiribati representatives to take part in the march with the other island nation’s athletes,” said Teurakai, who will compete in touch. “The facilities feel like home to me and I’m happy to come to PNG to participate in the XV Pacific Games. I also want to thank PNG for the great hospitality.” The press attache for the Cook Islands, Temu Okotai, was also at the ceremony. Okotai (COK), who had lived in Port Moresby for six years and had most recently been in the city two years ago, said he never thought he would come back to see all the changes. “I thought it would be hard to get all these things together, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the face-lift in preparation for the Games,” he said. “I’m not only impressed with the facilities but actually the feel of the city. There is a good atmosphere around the place and I am happy to see that.” Pacific Games Media
